Submission Guidelines
What can you do with 250 words? The Postcard Story is the quintessential example of distilled writing. The concept is simple: write a story that can fit on a postcard. Narrative or prose poetry, fiction or nonfiction, funny or dead serious… It’s all good, as long as you stick to the word limit.
Your starting point is the image you see below – the watercolour illustration titled “The Tale”, by artist Phoebe Kates. Think of a story that would be the perfect match to go on the other side of the postcard. No need to be literal: we don’t expect you to describe the piece (not a caption contest!) or to cuff your words to the visual prompt. The image is your tarmac — use it to get some speed and then take off to the sky.
